What is Guacamole?

Guacamole, pronounced "gwah-kah-mo-leh", is a popular mexican specialty of mashed avocado mixed with lime juice and salt.

How do you eat it though?

Guacamole is usually used as a dip or side dish and is served with totopos to dip.

How would I make it?


Authentic Mexican

For 1 bowl:

To prepare, combine all the ingredients. Stir together with a spoon to form a coarse mixture. Do not overmix; leave bits of avocado intact.

Tex-Mex Guacamole

To prepare, roughly mash the avocados with a spoon. Add all other ingredients and serve with chips.


Are there any other variants?

It is said there are as many ideas as there are heads, this holds true for peoples pallets. Here is a small list of other items some people enjoy putting into guacamole:

A comment on storage

Saving the avacado pit and placing it back in the bowl once you are done will prevent the guacamole from turning brown. The lime juice used during preperation will also help retard the process. As soon as you have finished eating, it's best to use plastic wrap and refrigerate.
