Fois gras literally translates as "fat liver" in French.
Often used in French cuisine, it is as popular in Japan, China and other places of the world too.
Fois gras is the liver of a duck which is force fed foods which make the liver so fatty, it becomes patte like and is a common ingredient in most 'high end' restaurants.
